Primark, Barton Square, The Trafford Centre

October 20, 20200

The Liverpool branch of GG Glass has carried out a full design and installation of the new front façade at Primark’s latest store opening in Barton Square, The Trafford Centre, Manchester.

Description

The latest store from retail giant, Primark, is spread over two floors, spanning 65,000 square foot in total.

A 12-week programme, the £950,000 contract included the installation of a new façade and shopfront. The glazing specification included a 25.5mm clear toughened laminated DG41 interlayer with digital printed glass, 6mm Pyroswiss fire rated glazing, Automatic swing entrance doors, back painted Aqua Blue 312 C Pantone glazed portals and Senior SF52 Curtain walling system with 250mm back box with steel inserts.

Ingress and egress of large glass panels, with most of the panels over one tonne in weight, presented a series of challenges with specially adapted glass wheeled stillages introduced to transfer the glass from the loading bay to the work face. The internal glazing, including full height atrium glazing, also proved to be particularly challenging in terms of installation, involving unsociable hours and weekend working to achieve project completion under a tight timeframe.

A host of specialist equipment and machinery was utilised at the project including glazing robots, a mini crawler spider, DZ2 suction lifter, MRT6 suction lifter, Genie lifts and pump trucks.

Ray Moss, Director at GG Glass commented: “We have worked as part of the wider Primark contracting team on numerous developments over the past several years and are fully in tune with their wider approach, needs and objectives.

“At the Trafford Centre scheme, we have partnered with contractor Graham to develop a bespoke glazing solution, covering an expansive area of shop frontage. The glazing system is now fully in-situ and looks fantastic, is incredibly robust and sturdy, and is finished with a bold digital display which sets the entire frontage off.”

GG Glass continue to be selected as the commercial glazing contractor of choice by the retail giant as their roll-out continues, Trafford Centre marking the 10th new build project delivered for Primark. Other Primark developments completed by GG Glass include stores in Milton Keynes, White
City, Llanelli, Chorlton, Rotherham, West Bromwich and Taunton, representing a combination of new build and refurbishment programmes.
