Large glazed office frontage replacement job completed in Glasgow

May 17, 20170

GG Glass in Scotland has completed a large glazed office frontage replacement in the heart of Glasgow City Centre, carrying out all removal and installation works within a single day.

Description

Commissioned on behalf of facilities management company, FES, the Scottish branch of GG Glass removed and replaced two large glazed corner units at premier grade A office development, Cuprum.

At just under 100,000 sq ft, Cuprum is considered one of Glasgow’s most dynamic office buildings. Situated on Argyle Street within the city’s central business district, Cuprum is home to a number of leading national and international businesses and enterprises.

In order to safely facilitate the works, the GG Glass team facilitated a street closure allowing the erection of a 38 metre lorry mounted crane. This proved particularly challenging due to the city centre location but was considered essential due to the weight of the load baring lifting machine.

A contraflow traffic management system was put in place, including a lane closure to provide access.

Steve McAloon, Branch Manager at GG Glass Scotland commented: “This was a challenging job due to the confined access and extremely busy city centre location. Careful planning was critical. The experienced team carried out the closure, removal and installation within a single day during the weekend, with works completed in preparation for the beginning of the working week.”

Works where carried out at height on the buildings fifth floor. The specified units made where designed using 8mm toughened-8mm toughened Low-e glass with corner silicone smear detail for the construction joint.

Steve added: “We own a vast amount of experience across the glazing sector. This latest project showcases our ability.”
