GG Glass & Glazing Breathe Life into Award-Winning Concept
When first class glazing manufacture and installation skills meet innovative design, the result is a resounding success. The 2016 Retail Week Awards, held last month, are the proof of the pudding.
We’re delighted to have played a major part in bringing the concept for the River Island store in the Bullring, Birmingham, to life. At the prestigious Retail Week awards ceremony in March, held at Grosvenor House, London, their flagship store walked away with the Store Design of the Year award.
The High Fashion Shopping Experience
Taking the innovative design from concept to completion, GG Glass & Glazing played no small part in the creation of this astonishing space. A two level store, the concept at the heart of the design is ‘The Event’, with the aim of giving shoppers a catwalk experience as they browse, sample, and shop. It’s an idea that’s been well received by the public as well as the wider retail world, with Retail Focus Magazine also including the design in their ‘Favourite Concept’ competition.
The magic of glass lies at the heart of bringing this glamorous concept to life. The vast 8 metre tall atrium with its circular, stepped stage complete with model mannequins, instantly immerses visitors in the fashion show/art exhibition experience, creating an atmosphere of exciting discovery. Glass, mirrors, and clever lighting lead visitors fluidly through the store, with each section running seamlessly into the next.

Our Manchester branch undertook all the glazing in the flagship Bullring store, bringing together diverse skills and technological excellence. We’re very proud to showcase our glazing skills in such high profile projects, and delighted to congratulate River Island and the concept designers on their Store Design of the Year, 2016, award.
